Hi Language Buddy!

In this post, I want to share a personal and unique language learning experience I've had - one that I believe many language learners might not have the chance to experience in their lifetime. I call this experience "losing your language virginity." Before I go any further, I want to clarify that this is not a sexual thing; it's a term I've chosen to describe a moment of profound connection with a language and its speakers.

Losing your language virginity is a moment when you feel like you've crossed a threshold in your language learning journey, connecting deeply with the person you're speaking to in the target language. It's a moment that can only happen once for each language, and once it happens, there's no going back.

I've experienced this moment with five of the nine languages I speak: French, Dutch, Spanish, German, and Italian. I can still remember the exact moment, the person I was talking to, and the realization that I had crossed that barrier. It's an incredible feeling that's difficult to describe if you haven't experienced it yourself.

I haven't had this experience with Portuguese, Swedish or Russian yet, and as for English, it's hard to pinpoint such a moment since it's my native language. I'm curious to know if other polyglots have experienced something similar, and if so, how it compares to my own experiences.
