How Accountability Determines Success or Failure

Hi Language Buddy!

I want to talk about the importance of accountability when it comes to achieving our goals, particularly in language learning. There are generally two types of people: self-starters who can accomplish everything on their own, and those who benefit from having someone or a group to be accountable to. For most people, having a sense of accountability can significantly help with motivation and ultimately achieving their goals.

In language learning, accountability can take the form of a language exchange or a paid instructor. While language exchanges can be hit or miss due to varying motivation levels and commitment, having a paid instructor can offer a more consistent level of accountability.

I've found that online language instruction not only provides the necessary guidance but also bakes in the accountability aspect. When you have a scheduled lesson, you're obligated to show up and participate. For example, if I have an Italian lesson on Sunday at 9 AM, I need to be there, regardless of whether I stayed up late the previous night. If I don't show up, I'm not only letting my instructor down, but I'm also likely still responsible for paying for the lesson.

This additional degree of accountability in language learning goes beyond the actual instruction received. It helps ensure we stay on track, remain committed, and ultimately achieve our language learning goals.

As you embark on your language learning journey, consider the power of accountability and how it can keep you focused and motivated. Wishing you all a productive journey ahead!
